Manchester seemed pretty clueless about most of their modules, and the year abroad woman didn’t have a clue about the difference between two of the programs, so that’s them off the list.
Bath is too far away, and it costs an absolute bomb to live there in the second year. Plus, I’m not sure that I want to learn Italian from scratch, despite it being a gorgeous language - I’ve started Spanish this year, so I may as well carry on with it.
So that leaves Nottingham, Lancaster and Aberystwyth.
Nottingham is only just across the A50. I’ve got friends studying there, and I have family there. The university is lovely, some of the accommodation not so much. The course is great, the lecturers were enthusiastic and I love the city.
Lancaster is lovely. The buildings are all pretty new, the accommodation is brand new, the lecturers were enthusiastic, it’s just over an hour up the M6, so it’s not hard to get to. I can also carry on with German there, and if I decide I really hate it, then I can drop it at the end of the first year. However, my twin sister has it down as her first choice, and while I’ve been through the education system with her all my life, now seems to be the right time to break away. I know you’re reading this, sis, so love you :) xx
Aberystwyth is a three hour drive along some bumpy, twisty roads, either that or three trains - Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury to Crewe, Crewe to Stoke. The staff seemed to be under the impression I’m taking German, just because I’m doing it at A-Level, when in fact, I’m considering dropping it, although I’m not sure - I applied for Romance Languages there. The accommodation was decent, but nothing to shout about. I’m not sure I’d like the town an awful lot, however it’s my lowest offer, so it only makes sense to put it as my insurance place.
So that leaves Nottingham and Lancaster.
This will be a long afternoon.
